Fluid-Induced Inhomogeneous Cr-spinel in Dunite and Wehrlite from the Duke Island Complex, Southeastern Alaska

Cr-spinel [(Mg, Fe2+)(Cr, Al, Fe3+)2O4)] is a common mineral in the ultramafic core of Duke Island complex southeastern Alaska, US. grains with an unmixed texture have been observed dunite and wehrlite complex. Inhomogeneous ratio Cr/(Al + Cr Fe3+) <0.37 prominent dunite. The inhomogeneous consists two completely different compositions: Al-rich Cr-spinel, Fe3+-rich wide range content (from 11.8 wt.% to 28.6 Cr2O3). complex, three subtypes are recognized: TypeB1 showing complete separation, crystallographically oriented type B2 irregular rimmed B3 Cr-spinel. was achieved by unmixing process at around 600 °C due miscibility gap spinel between phases. patterns controlled initial chemical composition, grain size spinel, cooling process. We propose that composition formed interaction high-temperature fluid olivine; experienced may be useful proxy unveil activity formation Alaskan-type complexes.
